Mary McLeod Bethune achieved her greatest national and international recognition at the Washington, DC townhouse at 1318 Vermont Avenue, NW, that is now this Historic Site. It was the first headquarters of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) and was her last home in Washington, DC. From here, Bethune and the Council spearheaded strategies and developed programs that advanced the interests of African American women and the Black community.

Children’s Museum of Rose Hill Manor Park
Rose Hill Manor, the retirement home of Thomas Johnson, Maryland’s first elected Governor, serves as a hands-on history museum for children of all ages. The 63,00 acre park extends along 14 scenic miles of Seneca Creek, as it winds its way to the Potomac River. The Clopper Day-Use Area contains many scenic areas, including the 90-acre Clopper Lake, surrounded by forests and fields. Picnicking, boat rentals, trails and a tire playground are just some of its recreational opportunities. A restored 19th century cabin and a self-guided path interpret the history of the area. Nearby, the Schaeffer Farm Trail Area offers 12 miles of marked trails for hiking and mountain biking. For the more adventuresome hiker, the 16.5-mile Seneca Creek Greenway Trail follows the entire course of the river. During May, the Schwartz peony gardens and field plants are in bloom

Washington Dolls’ House and Toy Museum
This museum is home to six rooms of antique dolls, doll houses toys, and games. Some of the ""doll houses"" on display are probably construction models; others are documented Christmas gifts to little girls a century ago. Assembled by dollhouse historian Flora Gill Jacobs in 1975, the collection offers numerous Victorian and early 20th-century versions of the classic children‘s toy. This is a wonderful excursion for any child or adult enamored with miniature collectible.
